Ceyda Cengiz the overall evaluation of Anaçev
Ceyda Cengiz Reflection 3
I have been to Anaçev for seven weeeks and I am going to summarise the activities that I have carried out in my class every week. The orders may be wrong, but the activities were done in the way I describe. In the first three weeks, the class made their rehearsal for the show on friday and had their English classes on Wednesday. In the first week, I taught them: Hello, hi, My name is……, Nice to meet you..,etc. I have modeled these and then I wanted them to introduce themselves in this way to the person next to them. I gave all the instructions in English in a simple way, by using English very little, but my body language a lot. I monitored them, by going to every kid, and helping them when they needed help. In the second week, I taught them the colors. Actually, some kids knew the colors, some were familiar with them but some did not know anything. Since their levels were varied, I felt the need to teach them from the beginning. I started with a song in order to take kids’ attention and to make them familiar with the words. Then I selected one kid and we showed the colors of the clothes he wore and remembered the color and then we played a game. In the third week, we learnt ‘days’’, in the fourth ‘seasons’, in the fifth ‘fruits’, in the sixth ‘animals’ and, in the seventh ‘on, in, under, etc.’ I have not specified which activities I have prepared for them here, but I can say that they were built mostly on songs, games, competitions and physical activities.

Ceyda Cengiz: Reflection 2
I can easily say that Anaçev provided the students with a very good education. The kids did not spend anytime without doing anthing, and they were all very busy with doing something all the time. In addition to the time they spent in their classrooms, the kids had the chance to select special activities and improve themselves with the sport or kind of art they enjoyed doing. The kids had many options to choose. Tennis, piano and ballet were the most preferred ones. The students also played chess, and they had even competitions in which they could compete and show their skills. The boys generally preferred tennis while the girls liked ballet. The tennis and ballet courses were on Friday and lasted one and half an hour. There were also many competitions between the kids in the field of tennis. The ballet girls had a show at the end of the term, for which they had rehearsels every friday. Other than those, they had English classes on two days, wednesday and friday. The English teacher was a very friendly one, whom the kids liked very much. The English classes were very fun and colorful thanks to the creative and fun acitivities the English teacher provided the students. On Wednesday, the kids generally learnt English while they made their rehearsals for the end-of –the-term show on Friday. In theshow, each kid had a role, one was a banana, other butterfly, etc. ,they had their costumes and a few sentences to say in English. (I will provide the video of the kids making a rehearsal) Although the kids got prepared for this show on Fridays in the first few weeks, they changed it to Wednesday so that I could find the opportunity to see how English was taught to the kids, what activities the teacher prepared for them, and how they learnt English. It was clear to me that the English teacher knew how to teach to young learners. He was very friendly, and smiling but he also knew how and when to intervene. He had many creative activities that students liked very much. While learning English, the kids had fun. The teacher included many games, songs, and physical actions into his teaching English. He benefited from TPR, in which the kids spent all their energy and became active. With songs and games, the kids learnt unconsciously without being aware that they learn something. The teacher focused on vocabulary teaching, and taught the kids English vocabulary : colors, animals, fruits, etc. most of the time. Only grammar I saw him teaching may be the prepositions: in, on, under, etc. While teaching vocabulary, he generally used flashcards on which there were the pictures of the words, and he organized games with those flashcards. He asked the kids questions about the words, and it was very good to see that all the students were very attentive and comfortable to be the volunteer. It was obvious that they liked learning English. In addition to vocabulary, the kids also practised their listening skills. They had a tv room and they watched English cartoons there. (It was not on friday). One more thing that I want to point out is that the teacher did not make them to produce any language, or oblige them to speak. Therefore the kids learnt English in a stress-free way.
Ceyda Cengiz: reflection 1
Reflection 1
I would like to write my 3 progress reports in the following order. In reflection one, I am going to talk about the institution and I am going to describe the environment in that institution. In reflection two, I am going to talk about the students, teachers, what and how they learn, etc. In reflection three, I am going to talk about my role in the institution, what contributions I have made, etc. Finally, in the reflection for end-of-semester, I am going to evaluate the overall aspects of my experience going to Anaçev, its advantages, disadvantages, and its aspects that could be improved.
To begin with, I have been to Anaçev, a private institution in Ümitköy thoroughout the semester and I have been there for 28 hours. I went there on Fridays between the hours of 8.00 and 12.00. My kids were 6 years old. In the kindergarten, there were many kids between the ages of 3-6. The class size was around 15-20. Every class had at least 2 teachers except the special activity teachers. The director of the institution was a strict but a really good one at her job, the teachers all respected her and everything flew in an organized way in the institution thanks to the order. Since it was a private institution, I can say that everything that kids needed was ready for them. The facilities were very good. The kids had their class, cafeteria, play rooms, ballet, piano rooms and a show room which was for special events and meetings. In the class, the students had many games, pencils, materials, story books, etc. Not only the facilities but also the teachers were very good at their job, as well. They knew how to deal with the kids, and how to arrange a positive learning environment for them. The other personnel was also very kind, and helpful. The kids arrived the kindergarten around 8.00-8.30 every morning and stayed there till 5.30-6.00 every day. I observed that although they were too young, they got used to the environment and adapted themselves easily to their teachers and friends. The kids did not really display much misbehaviour, they obeyed the rules and their teachers. To sum up, I can easily say that the facilities, the environment, the quality of the teachers, and everything was designed in such a way that thekids could learn and spend their time effectively in a happy mood.
